Schick Quattro Titanium with trimmer: Convenient for travel and good shave too
Image via Wikipedia
As you all know I’m pretty skeptical about all the new additions to the razor front, not to mention I prefer to shave with a safety razor, so when I received a Schick Quattro Titanium to try I thought “meh, here we go again”. Nope, I was wrong. That is one darn cool razor.
I’m sure you’ve seen the commercials by now. The new Schick Quattro Titanium with built-in beard trimmer… Yeah, yeah.
I had been experimenting with growing back my previous face-fur and then thought the better of that so I wanted to shave it off. Since it had been a couple weeks, there was trimming to do before I could shave. Ah ha, I thought, perfect time to try out this razor.
Checking out the razor before hand I was really impressed with it. First the beard trimmer is adjustable with three different settings. Next the trimmer runs off a replaceable battery. And finally it you can use it in the shower (read it can be dunked).
Yes, there is also the razor part, which is a four blade set up with the current bells and whistles we now expect/demand in a razor (which also makes them dreadfully expensive).
The first test was the trimmer.
It certainly had its work cut out for it (hee hee) trimming off the fur so I could shave it off. On the lowest setting there was a little pulling and because the trimmer head is so small, it wasn’t the fastest trim in the world, but it did a decent job.
No, it wasn’t close enough for my tastes before going back to clean shaven so I did attack the remainder with my usual trimmer, but you know for a wee trimmer tacked onto the back of a razor I was impressed.
Trimming completed it was time for the shaving part. Like the Fusion, Mach 3, etc it was a good, close, comfortable shave.
So, verdict? If you have a beard, etc and don’t want to bring the whole trimming set up with you when you travel, this is a must get razor. No, really, I liked it that much. Small, compact, good shave, decent trim. If I had kept the face fur, I would certainly have that in my dop kit as my razor and even go as so far as buying replacement blades for it.
Clearly if you’re clean-shaven, you don’t need this particular version of the Quattro, the non-trimmer version will certainly suffice. I’ve heard many of my women friends rave and wax poetic about the Quattro for women, so I’m gathering that Schick is on to something here.
There you go, I actually recommend a standard commercial razor. Will wonders never cease.
